About Me

Peter has specialised in prosecuting or defending professionals in regulatory proceedings since 1998. He has particular experience of the regulation of solicitors, accountants, social workers, doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals. As Principal Legal Advisor at the GMC between 2002 and 2006, he was heavily involved in the extensive reform of the GMC’s fitness to practise procedures in 2004. He has also drafted statutory instruments, as well as fitness to practise rules and constitutional documents for other regulators. Peter is a Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Courts Civil) and has acted as legal adviser to committees and as advocate in many professional regulatory cases both at the interim suspension and public inquiry stages. He is a nominated advocate for disciplinary proceedings brought by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Peter is recognised as a leader in the field of professional disciplinary work by the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and by the Legal 500. He also has considerable experience in judicial review proceedings, having acted for a number of public sector bodies facing challenges to their decisions, and has represented regulatory bodies in appeals to the High Court and Privy Council. He also advises clients about primary care fraud and related civil, criminal and disciplinary proceedings, as well as about general public law and healthcare law issues. Specialties: Professional discipline, law relating to solicitors, judicial review and public law
